Katraj Zoo re-opens after two years

The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological park and Wildlife research centre / Katraj Zoo is located on Opposite Katraj Dairy,  Pune-Satara Road, Katraj. The Zoo is spread across 130 acres of land and has a snake park, a zoo and an animal orphanage. They also have a wildlife research centre which serves as an animal orphanage, rescue centre and care centre for animals. The zoo organizes various animal welfare activities, environmental awareness events and guided tours too. And it is a must-visit place for nature lovers, experience seekers, and wildlife enthusiasts. Due to covid-19 pandemic the Zoo was closed from more than 2 years. It has been made open for visitors, wildlife enthusiasts from 14th March 2022. To visit the Zoo you need to be double vaccinated and upon showing the certificate you will be given a ticket.

You can see Leopard, White Tiger, Bengal Tiger, Sloth Bears, Sambhars, Barking Deers, Blackbucks, Monkeys and elephants. In the snake park there is Indian Rock Python, Cobra, Vipers, King Cobra, reptiles includes, crocodiles, indian star tortoise, variety of birds peafowl, Peacock, vultures and Eagles.  
You can walk the entire route by yourself or the park has a facility of battery operated vehicles also.

Zoo Timings:
9.30 am to 6.00 pm.
The zoo is open on Monday, Tuesday and from Thursday to Sunday.
On Wednesday the Zoo is closed.

One can reach the Park by taking these bus numbers from respective bus stand:
From Swarget bus stand any bus coming towards Katraj- Bus No. 103, 42, 301 
From Shivaji Nagar bus stand any bus coming towards Katraj- Bus No. 2
From Pune Station bus stand any bus coming towards Katraj- Bus No. 24

Kindly follow these when you are inside the zoo:
– Use of plastic is banned in the zoo so please carry your eatables in cloth or paper bags.
– Please pay 10/- per use and through kind of bottle and get receipt of the same from the counter and show the receipt while returning deposit will be refunded
– Lighting a fire or cooking food is prohibited.
– Do not disturb the environment by playing music or outdoor games instead enjoy nature and the sound of silence.
– Entry of pets is not allowed.
– Do not pluck Flowers.
– Do not enter into “no entry zone”.
– Please stay on the path and in areas provided for sitting.
– Please take care of your children and belongings.
– Kindly follow the instructions posted on the signboards.

You can enjoy the animals in their natural habitat, learn about snakes and reptiles. Information is also available at the counter.
There are educational activities, programmes, workshops which are conducted every year to educate everyone about animals. You can take part in it by enquiring about it at the counter.
