First year junior college admissions in Pune: 5,000 still await admission after first come, first served round

The first come, first served (FCFS) round for admissions to the first year junior college (FYJC) Class 11 began its first round on Monday. With more than 5,000 students waiting for admissions, the round will be for the students in the first category only, informed the education department.

This round comes after the special round under the FYJC was completed on August 21. Unlike the previous rounds which were merit-based, these set of rounds will be solely based on the sequence of admission confirmation by students and, hence, have been divided into three categories.

In the first category among these, students who have received marks between 80 and 100 per cent in SSC (Class 10) or equivalent tests will be eligible. Based on the admissions in the first category round, the education department will release a list of vacancies on August 28 at 6 pm. Those who have not confirmed their admissions could do so till Tuesday (August 28), 3 pm.

This round is to provide a chance of admission to the remaining students who have are still not got admission, including those who were not allotted any college in the regular rounds conducted so far, or who had cancelled their admissions in all the regular rounds.

Even those who did not confirm admission despite getting their first preference colleges or who cancelled their admissions, or were rejected in the special round, will get their last chance to admission in these series of rounds based on the category their marks fit.

Following this, from August 29, the education department will open the admissions for the second category students, those who scored between 60 and 100 per cent. The admissions under the third category will begin on August 31, for students who passed the boards with at least 35 per cent or more.
