Shreemant Dagdushet Ganpati Pune is one of the most prestigious deities in the city of Pune. Worshipers from all over the world visit this temple to take blessings from the holy god. Situated close to the historic monument of Shaniwar Wada, the temple receives thousands of visitors every year. Considered to be the presiding deity, this Pune Ganpati is definitely a worth visiting destination here. The glorious idol of Ganesha here simply captivates the worshippers’ attention and gives them a distinct soothing feel. Considered to be one of the richest temples in India, the approximate value of the idol is more than ten million INR.
The magnificent architecture and carvings on the walls of this temple are certainly worth watching. The inside of this temple is divided into three sections. The first section is dedicated to the Lord Ganesha where the idol is placed on a marble stage. The spectacular idol is sheer beauty with a height of 7.5 feet and breadth of 4 feet. The idol is further adorned with outstanding ornaments of goal and precious stone. The second section is dedicated to the worshippers from where a queue passes. The third section is a hall where worshippers can sit in peace and offer their prayers to the holy deity.
The temple opens at 6.00 AM followed to which the Morning Prayer is conducted at around 7:30 AM to 7:45 AM. The Noon Prayer is then conducted between 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM and the Madhyana Prayer between 3:00 PM to 3:15 PM. Every evening a mass Atharvashirsha Pathan and Prime Prayer is conducted between 8:00 PM to 8:45 PM. At the end of the day, a Shejarti is conducted between 10:30 PM to 10:45 PM followed to which the temple closes at 11:00 PM. The temple remains open for general public from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. However, the temple entry is stopped anywhere between 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM to avoid any disturbance during the Prime Prayer.
History:
The temple of Dagdushet Ganpati was founded in the year 1893 by Mr. Dagdushet Halwai who was a prosperous sweetmeat seller in Pune. Mr. Halwai lost his son in a plague epidemic which led him and his wife into depression. To come out from this grief, Madhavnath Maharaj, the guru of Mr. Halwai suggested him to build a Ganesh temple. Mr. Halwai himself being a religious person immediately constructed a spectacular temple and started spending time worshipping the holy lord.
Shaniwar Wada and the Pune Municipal Corporation , Tulasi Baug etc. are the two closest major locations near this temple.
