HISTORY OF PUNE

Pune is known for it’s vibranceand is one of the rear cities with a twin image : one being tradition bound and the other of being a modern industrial metropolis. 

Down the centuries ,pune has been ruled by several dynasties. The earliest evidence found(Copper plates dated 758 and 768 A.D.) reveals that the Rashtrakootas ruled this region then. At that time Pune was referred as Punaka Vishaya and Punya Vishaya.Later on, the city has been mentioned as Kasabe Pune.After the Rashtrakootas , Pune was ruled by Yadava dynasty.
The city is linked with the life of Maratha hero, Chhatrapati Shivaji and the city acquired prominence when shivaji came to stay with his mother in 1635-36.

Even after Indian independence , pune remained an educational and research center with the foundation of the University of Pune, The National Defence Academy (NDA), National Chemical Laboratory and other such leading institutes. Pune also aquired importance because of Osho Rajneesh , who set up his commune which is visited by thousands of foreigners every year. With the advent of IT companies, International Educational Institutions, shopping Malls, Multiplexes, Modern Infrastructure, Pune has emerged as major IT / business hub in India. This has led to the melange of people from various cultures inn the city, making it perfect metropolis. Pune has also set an example of the harmonious blend of old and new.it hosts various national festivals, cultural events throughout the year because of presence of people from multiple religions and regions.
The city is growing fast both as a cultural and industrial centre of India.
